Challenger TAFE

Ironbridge Technical Director, Bassam Matty, played a key role in advancing this striking architectural statement in Murdoch, WA. The project features unique GRC facade panels—each an impressive 2400 mm × 2400 mm × 200 mm. By rationalising the GRC to be cast from a single silicone-coated mould, Bassam achieved production efficiency without compromising the architects vision of a complex and uneven web.

These robust panels are cleverly rotated along the 72 m × 4.8 m elevation, generating dynamic patterns that shift with the viewer’s perspective. This bold design not only adds textural depth but also showcases the structural ingenuity required to support such large, lightweight cladding elements.

The facade’s craftsmanship and innovation earned it recognition in the National Precast Concrete Association – Australia, reflecting both its aesthetic appeal and technical achievement.
